I currently lead several courses and professional development experiences at the UK’s National STEM Learning Centre including:
- – Teaching Primary Science Outdoors. A two-day residential course I have been involved with since 2012 and now lead.
- – Technicians Supporting: 11-19 Biology. Delivery of professional development experiences in Field Ecology Skills for groups of technicians. This courses usually runs twice per year and I have delivered sessions since 2013.
I have also previously provided and can deliver CPD in ‘using your outdoor learning environment’, ‘practical ideas for teaching biology’, ‘primary science for new and recently qualified teachers’, ‘ecology fieldwork’, ‘using ICT in the outdoor classroom’, ‘developing your school grounds for learning’, ‘science enquiry outdoors’, ‘professional development for technical staff’ and ‘professional registration’. I hold the STEM Learning CPD Quality Mark – Lead Facilitator.
INSET and ITE
I have worked with a wide variety of schools across the UK providing on-site in-service education and training (INSET) for teachers, technicians and teaching assistants. I also work with initial teacher education (ITE) institutions to provide workshops for PGCE students. I specialise in hands-on, practical CPD using existing facilities and outdoor space but I can also provide off-site CPD if preferred. Each package is tailored to meet whole school, cluster or MAT priorities, staff or trainee needs and curriculum requirements. My provision ranges from twilight sessions and full days to programmes lasting multiple terms. I deliver CPD on a range of topics including practical science and STEM, outdoor learning, working scientifically and scientific enquiry outdoors, cross-curricular approaches to learning outdoors, using and developing school grounds for learning and the areas detailed in the ‘courses’ section above.
If you would like a workshop, course or INSET developed and delivered for an upcoming conference or training day contact me to discuss your requirements and desired outcomes.
